It's been a little while...

Feeling pretty tired lately, I wonder if it's the weather change...

A little less than a month 'til I turn 24 years old, where did the year go?

Song of Fire and Ice book series is really really good.

Yeah, that's about it. Zzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Server: Yustiel
Name: Vierala
Faction: Asmodian
Class: Cleric
Level: 30
Legion: Watchmen

Gotta get higher level so I can finally beat up some of those Elyos.  Do have a funny story though!

The Elyos on Yustiel are known for high levels and zerg rushes.  Well, I was out in the Abyss yesterday, standing near a guard tower with some other mid to high 20s Asmodians.  We were all being cornered there by some mid to high 30s Elyos.

Anyway, they were just standing there, waiting for us to come away from the tower.  Being the brave little Cleric that I am, I stepped forward, found an annoying Ranger buzzing about, and gave her a /kiss.  I'm sure she was able to see it, because the next thing I know, they're all charging forward.  Templar grabs me and the Ranger started unloading on me.

Well, a few spams of Dispel and a Flash of Recovery I later, I was running to the tower.  And guess who got too close to the guard tower when they were clearly attacking me?

Bye-bye Pigeons. ♥

Moral of the story: Just because you're a higher level doesn't mean that a lower level character won't outwit you.

Okay, so I downloaded obtained a copy of this compilation of CDs called "Lord of the Rings: Complete Songs & Poems. Apparently it was put together by "The Tolkien Ensemble," a group of Danish musicians who decided they wanted to put together all the songs from LotR and were actually backed by the Tolkien estate. It took them about 10 years to finish everything, and holy crap, they got Christopher Lee to join in the project.

I'm listening to the songs at work. Holy crap. They're beautiful. They capture the mood of the book perfectly (hobbit songs are all folk-y and heartwarming, elven songs are haunting and beautiful, sad songs are sad, etc etc). AND JESUS CHRIST, CHRISTOPHER LEE TALKS IN THE BLACK TONGUE. Scary crap. My sister-in-law, who is a huge LotR fan, was very, very impressed. Her and I nerded out for about 30 minutes listening to some of these songs (of course we had a laugh at Legolas's song of the sea, which opens up in a FABULOUSLY epic way).

So yeah. Totally nerding out on this stuff. Gotta get these songs to whit when she gets home today.

In other nerdy news, been playing the living crap out of Aion Online. It's pretty fun, though I'm not sure if it's the game itself, or the fact that many of my friends are now playing it. We created a legion called "Watchmen" and the jew in his infinite dorkiness made his vent server Watchmen-themed, and once our legion reaches level 3, we're going to be uploading some kind of Watchmen symbol to our tabbard (either the smiley face, or the doomsday clock). 8) I'm the legion's commander -- first time I've ever been a guild leader of any sort!

Will have to post pictures later. Haven't taken any in my new armor, and this work comp is crappy when it comes to photobucket.

That's all for now, gotta get ta' workin'.

Well, it was a pretty good weekend.  Despite some awkwardness in the home, I went with Susan (Ben's stepmom) to go pick Ben and Stan up from the airport.  I was soooo happy to see him.  I stood outside the international arrivals gate, my heart all pitter-patter, then all of a sudden he came walking through and I was all smiles and just walked up to him and gave him a hug.  I felt three weeks' worth of stress just melt away.  He was very happy to see me too, and even more excited when we got in the car and I showed him that I had my driver's license.   My surprise for him was apparently the best thing I could have gotten for him, or so he says.

And he came bearing gifts as well!  Pictures below the cut.
Gifts! )

He was able to go driving a bit after he got back (he was actually very glad to do so, he loves driving), and we visited with his friends, hung out, played video games.  All went well without a hitch.  I'm just so glad he's back!  I hope to link some pictures from Europe when his brother uploads them.

So I start this week on a high note.  I'm always a little wary when weeks start out like this, for my life's been funny about strokes of good/bad luck.   Maybe my caution will keep things from changing too much.  Tonight I'm gonna go to Gamestop for the midnight release of Arkham Asylum and Final Fantasy Dissidia (the latter of which I'm more concerned with, though I might check out the Batman game as well).  All's well so far (for once).

I don't know if any of you knew, but I must come out and say it--

I DON'T HAVE MY DRIVER'S LICENSE YET.

Yes.  I'm 23 years old and don't have my driver's license.  Why?  I think it's a mix of fear and laziness, maybe a 80-20 ratio.  I used to have vivid nightmares about being in car wrecks, and I wouldn't be the one injured, but my friends would be.   Started right around the time I should have been in driver's ed and lasted into my 20s, any time I thought about driving.  Driver's ed at the time was too expensive for my parents to pay for, and then I went to STARS Academy instead of regular high school, so I kept putting it off and putting it off, getting rides from the good graces of people (and being thankful of course).

But I'm started to think that not having it was giving me a horrible image.  Either "oh there's a spoiled brat who gets everyone to drive for her" or "yikes that person must be unstable or there's something wrong with her so she can't/isn't allowed to drive."  I'm not one who usually cares a heck of a whole lot of what people think of me, but.. in this case...

Anyway, because I feel like I'm holding myself back and giving myself this image I don't want, so for the last couple of weeks while Ben's been gone in Europe I have been practicing driving.  Got my permit a couple months ago, and I decided that it would be a nice surprise for Ben when he got back if I had my license to show him.  He's probably dealt with my inability to drive more than anyone besides my parents.  I'm thankful for him too, because he picks me up from work almost every day without much complaint.

I drove myself to work today!  Of course, my mom had to be there with me or else it'd be against the law, but nonetheless I made it.  I'll probably do the same for the rest of the week.  I even managed to drive in high heels, though I'll probably drive with bare feet tomorrow.  This afternoon my mom wants me to take me to the place where they test you on parallel parking.  An "auto fail" on the test is hitting one of the poles while parallel parking, so I gotta make sure I'm at least a little knowledgeable.

So, this coming Monday is "D-Day," or so I call it.  Win or lose.  Make it or break it.  HEAVEN OR HELL

I understand that when something has rules, they need to be followed, and of course something like a moderator needs to stand as someone who enforces the rules in case things get out of hand.

But when that moderator only chooses to enforce the rules some of the time on some kind of whim and the bends like a reed in the wind to other related matters, that's what gets my goat.

Sure, go ahead and make a rule about no cussing.  Whatever.  It's understandable that some 13-year-old will wander along and their morality is put into our hands.  I cuss from time to time, but I know how to hold my tongue around children.  HOWEVER, a rule of limited profanity has been in place from the start, and only now, a year later, has it become some kind of issue for some ungodly reason.  I witnessed a person being come down upon (in front of everyone, no less, in a very juvenile manner) for dropping the f-bomb a couple of times.   If anyone cared to read the rule that is in place right now, it says nothing about NO cussing, but rather that we must keep language/profanity to a minimum.  I'm not too offended by the f-word used sporadically, the word is hardly ever used seriously anyway.  There were, at the time, more obvious culprits, and yet they get away with everything.

And yet I'm still confused -- why now of all times?  The place I speak of has always been a stinking cesspot of immature sex jokes and toilet humor, and only NOW are we concerned about profane language?  Was it not my concern since 13-year-olds did indeed start wandering among our numbers that we should stop with the jokes about sex and indecent remarks?  I care little about their claimed "maturity," all little teenagers are entitled twits and need to be given better examples so they don't turn out  to be little trolls.

If we're going to make some example by stopping the foul language, fine,  but we're going to need to stop all the indecent "profane" behavior (which does involve almost everything that's ever of a hot topic of conversation in there), too, or make another "ADULTS ONLY" room so the immature adults can go circle jerk, whatever.  I'm not going to half-ass some effort to clean up things in there.  In fact, until anyone cares to give more effort to act their age, I'm not playing a part in any of it.

PHEW what a dumb thing to rant about.

Well I finally set my mind to it and read the entirety of Lord of the Rings.  I've been meaning to do for god knows how long, but I must have severe ADD, because it took me reading along with the audiobook to finally get through it.  It wasn't really the book's fault, as I'm that way with everything I read... My eyes start wandering, and then suddenly I'm just scanning over words and not really paying attention to anything.

It was a great book.  I'm probably like... a million years too late to finally get into Tolkien's stuff but I just loved his ease of storytelling and the massive lore behind it all.  I bought some of the other books, and we'll see how long I can keep reading without blowing my brains out over  the complication of things.

I am playing Lord of the Rings Online right now, on the RPing server Landroval.  Playing one of those emotastic yet slightly whimsical elves, and came up with a bit of a backstory (which I always love doing, no matter what the medium).  It's been pretty fun so far, but I've found some uh... highly familiar and STUPID places where RP seems to gather, like The Prancing Pony inn, which reminds me of AOL days sadly.  I've also ran into some real "winner" characters, like last night I met a hobbit that was somehow raised among the elves of Lothlorien hundreds of miles away from the Shire. =__= To the knowledge of no one.  This made her smarter and  better and prettier, of course.  A HOBBIT MARY SUE.  My elf was expected to give her the time of day since she was raised among his own kind.  PFF.

Guess I can't expect to be able to escape those kinds of things.  I have my few RPing pals on there and I'm pretty satisfied.  Good hobbit RPers are hilarious.  Good elf RPers don't act like arrogant asses for the most part, but good dwarf RPers do.

Anyway, better get some more work done before I get too distracted.

Thinking about getting a haircut.  I'm tired of my yucky long hair and it always looking messy.  I think I might actually go for a bobbed look, but would that be too much of a change?  I have no idea what I'd look like with that style, though my face is oval and therefore optimum for it.  We'll see.  Perhaps I will consult mom and my sister.

Ben's in Germany right now, and will be in Europe for three weeks.  :( I'm gonna be a bored and lonely somebody.  On the upside, he's going to get me a rosary, which is something I've wanted for a while.  Wouldn't he be surprised if he came back from Europe and my hair was super short.

Hmmm, now it's not sounding like a bad idea after all...

Behind every great couple, there's often a great story. What's the best (nonfiction) how-we-met story you've heard?

This'll sound kind of dorky and sappy, but I always thought the way that Ben and I met was cute and awesomely dorky.  A mutual friend of ours introduced us at a hobby store.  Ben, in an effort to test my dorkiness, brought his miniatures for Warhammer 40k to show off.  If I seemed unimpressed or turned off, then I likely wasn't worth the effort.

Well, I must have passed the test.   Probably surpassed his expectations -- I still don't think he can quite handle my nerddom. ;)
